The numbers provided by Alexa and Quantcast are "third party" counts and calculations based on their traffic quantifying methods. Alexa gets their counts based on their toolbar which is an add-in for most internet browsers. Quantcast works with the larger ISP to get their traffic counts. Web developers can add javascript code to thier pages to get accurate counts if they want to.

The counts that Alexa and Quantcast provide are their best calcluated estimates. When I was tracking out site traffic at FamilyLink/WVR we determined that Alexa and Quantacast were typically 10-20% lower that actuals. We even found that Omniture was also typically low for some reasons even beyond human error. We experienced this with both Google Analytics and Omniture.

However, since these traffic counts are probably similarly lower than actual for all sites, it is still a good measure of traffic. All of is still valuable as a traffic tracking tools that are help many of us.

Have a look at the new blog list. There are problems with quantifying blogs that are on Blogspot or on other URLs other sites such as ancestry.com/yada yada.

Your blog shows up at #7.

I think that I should investigate to see if the various Genealogy blogs are trackable in an accurate way. I'll research that.
